What is Project Management?

Many organizations use projects to accomplish specific tasks. Project management is managing these projects to finish ON TIME and ON BUDGET.

A project manager must utilize skills, knowledge, and tools to achieve project requirements.

Each decision that a project manager makes will affect the Project Management Triangle.

Time: Each project has a timeline. The decisions a project manager makes will adjust the timeline of the project.
Scope: The requirements of the project. This includes everything from features to maintenance.
Budget: The budget is how many resources will be dedicated and consumed to the project.

Every Project Management decision affects each area of the Project Management triangle.

Answer:
It is difficult to say what is the "right answer" when you are the Project Manager. From these descriptions, a possible answer would be the following:

  • Wyatt - Online payment options: Online payment systems are tricky due to their legal implications. Wyatt is a good fit for this task because he is careful about adhering to standards.
  • David - Client Portal: The client portal is a complex system that aligns well with David's skill in designing complex systems.
  • Jolene - Contact Form: The contact form is generally a straight forward task and can easily be accomplished by the junior developer.
  • Bonnie - Update Marketing Graphics and colors: As mentioned above, Bonnie has a good relationship with the Marketing department which she can use as a resource to develop the new Marketing Graphics and colors
As Project Manager, it's up to you to know the strengths and weaknesses of your team and then assign tasks accordingly.
